The concept of selling beer at Montgomery Fest in August is still being discussed by the Montgomery Village Board.
Organizers of the 31st annual festival are looking to bring in a craft beer tent for the fest. Members of the Montgomery Foundation have asked to have the craft beer tent along with food vendors at the event, which will run Aug. 7 to 9 along the Fox River in the village.
Montgomery Mayor Matt Brolley said the concept being discussed is a craft beer tent, with a price of $5 per cup.
No beer has ever been sold at the fest, which is billed as a family-oriented event.
Members of the Montgomery Foundation brought up the idea of having a craft beer tent this year as a way to raise funds for the organization.
The VFW in Montgomery sells beer where it has always been available a block away from the event. However, the VFW doesn’t allow beer to leave the premises.
Some trustees had concerns about selling beer at the festival.
Trustee Doug Marecek said most of the problems at any event are caused be a small number of people.
“We might be looking for trouble, too,” said Trustee Pete Heinz.
Trustee Denny Lee said a large number of volunteers would be needed to work the tent.
“Cost sharing, trial year, it could be great or it could be the dumbest decision we have ever made,” said Trustee Steve Jungermann.
The event will include music, food, craft items, carnival rides, talent shows, a village parade, fishing derby, car show, fireworks and more.
