A lot of people could use a little more art in their lives, or maybe a lot more little art.
For the second year, the Log Cabin Center for the Arts, part of The Center in Palos Park, is showcasing tiny creations at its Little Art Show exhibit and sale Sunday, May 31, from 1 to 3 p.m. Admission is free.
The art will be mainly displayed inside the log cabins at the center, which are home to a variety of art classes for children and adults throughout the year.
Heather Young, an instructor at the Center, said she wanted a “whimsical” summer event to highlight the work of both the students at the Center and the teachers when she organized the first Little Art Show last year. Both young and adult students are part of the event.
“We had a really good turnout last year,” said Young, and the setting among the log cabins is “just looks so pretty.”
Although the works of art themselves are small, the variety is large.
“We have a nice assortment of tiny paintings, tiny drawings, tiny wood carvings,” Young said. There are small sculptures and lapidary works, quilts, baskets and more. Young will bring her own mini pottery pieces, 1- to 3-inch pots of different styles, to the show.
Pickin’ on Yuke, a ukulele group, will provide musical entertainment on their little instruments during the event, and bite-sized refreshments will be served, Young said.
The Center’s art class offerings include water colors, pottery, photography, silversmithing, stained glass making, and basket weaving. Some of the students in the teen pottery class created tiny dragons to sell at the Little Art Show. At the recent Barn to Be Wild benefit for the Center, Young held a mini art class in which students created little clay animals, many of which will also be displayed Sunday.
