A Waukegan man is scheduled to appear in Lake County Circuit Court on June 1 after being charged with indecent solicitation of a child.
Olvin Renato Mendoza, 26, of the 1500 block of Muirfield Avenue, was arrested Tuesday after allegedly making an online request through a social networking site to meet with a person he believed was a 14-year-old boy, according to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.
Sgt. Curtis Gregory said Mendoza was actually chatting with a member of the office’s cybercrimes unit.
At about 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Mendoza allegedly sent a message to the undercover officer posing as a 14-year-old to “engage in sexual acts,” Gregory said. Mendoza was arrested upon showing up for the meeting at a location that is not being disclosed, Gregory said.
After he was taken into custody by sheriff’s detectives, Mendoza was charged with two counts of indecent solicitation of a child, a Class 3 felony. He also was cited for an invalid driver’s license, a Class A misdemeanor.
Mendoza is being held in the Lake County Jail on $100,000 bail with his June 1 hearing pending in bond court.
