A Lake Forest man with a shotgun aiming to scare the owner of a defecating dog found himself under arrest the evening of May 19, police said.

John J. Zajac, 69, of the first block of East Franklin Place, was charged with reckless conduct and disorderly conduct. Police said they responded to a call at 8:36 p.m. that day at the condominium building, where they found Zajac sitting on the hallway floor with a shotgun.

The man told police that he had been sitting in the hallway waiting to frighten the owner of a dog that had defecated in several places in the condominium building, police said. Police confiscated the shotgun and several other firearms before they arrested him.

Deputy Chief Karl Walldorf said the shotgun was not loaded at the time Zajac was arrested.

Zajac was released on $1,500 bond. His next court date is scheduled for June 4.
