The owner of a West Highland white terrier stolen from a West Loop apartment last week is offering a $5,000 reward for the dog’s return.
Surveillance video released by Adam Johnston, whose dog, Barnaby, was stolen about 1:20 p.m. May 18 from Johnston’s apartment near Lake and Canal streets, shows someone going into the apartment building through a garage door and leaving a few minutes later with the dog.
The victim called police about 5 p.m. May 18 to report he had returned home and discovered his apartment had been broken into and his dog stolen, according to police.
Barnaby, who’s 6-1/2 years old, had just been returned to Johnston’s apartment by a dog walker, according to Johnston.
Surveillance video shows a white man with a dark beard wearing all-black or dark clothing, including a dark baseball cap, walk out of the garage with the dog in his arms and get into a small, dark-colored sedan.
Johnston is offering the reward with no questions asked, but the theft was reported to police. Anyone with information is asked to call 911 or Area Central detectives at 312-747-8380.
