A 62-year-old Aurora woman recently pleaded guilty to failing to report a 2007 accident involving a death, according to court documents. Charges in the case were filed last year.
Janna Andrade entered her plea without an agreement with prosecutors on a sentence, meaning a judge will determine her punishment at a hearing scheduled for June 4. She could be sent to prison, but Class 1 felonies also include probation as a potential sentence.
Kane County sheriff’s investigators arrested Andrade in October after information from an anonymous source prompted them to look into Andrade’s involvement in the crash that killed 46-year-old Kim West on March 22, 2007. Police said West, of Montgomery, was crossing Route 30 on her way home from a nearby bar to Victorian Apartments around 9 that night when a vehicle struck her as she crossed the dark stretch of road east of Orchard Road.
West died at the scene after the impact propelled her into a nearby ditch.
Police found only a headlight lens from a Hyundai Accent during their initial investigation. Police later learned Andrade owned an Accent at the time of the crash.
