Gov. Bruce Rauner on Friday announced the appointment of four people, including former DuPage County Chairman Robert Schillerstrom, to the Illinois Tollway board.
Also named were Craig Johnson, the mayor of Elk Grove Village; banker Joseph Gomez of Northfield; and Nick Sauer, a member of the Lake County Board and Forest Preserve District.
The new members are replacing four directors of the Illinois State Toll Highway Authority. They are Terrence D’Arcy of Shorewood; Mark Peterson of Lincolnshire; Jeffrey Redick of Elmhurst; and Tom Weisner, the mayor of Aurora. Their terms expired May 1.
Rauner’s office said he is reappointing David Gonzalez, who is the mayor of Chicago Heights, to another term.
Schillerstrom, a Naperville attorney, served three terms with the DuPage County Board. He is now a partner at Ice Miller Strategies LLC advising clients on issues related to local and state government, according to Rauner’s office.
“He had a reputation for doing more with less taxpayer money while lowering property taxes,” Rauner’s office said.
Johnson, the head of an insurance agency, has been Elk Grove Village mayor since 1997.
Johnson is a member of the advisory council on the Elgin-O’Hare Western Access project and was a leader of the suburban coalition that fought the city of Chicago’s expansion of O’Hare International Airport.
Gomez is senior vice president of Byline Bank, where he oversees business development. Prior to that, he worked for the state of Illinois in the Department of Financial and Professional Regulation’s Bureau of Banking.
Gomez has also served on the Illinois Development Finance Authority under Govs. James Thompson and Jim Edgar.
Sauer, of Lake Barrington, is a partner and sales representative at Scarsdale Marketing/Sauer Kitchen Solutions. He is the vice chair of the Lake County Board Public Works and Transportation Committee.
