Over objections from Lake County prosecutors, Lake Superior Court Judge Diane Boswell agreed to allow accused burglar Terrence Christmas to await trial on house arrest.

That was May 14. Three days later, Lake County police learned Christmas, 19, had cut off the ankle monitor. Officers found it lying outside his girlfriend’s home in the 1300 block of Chase Street where he was supposed to be confined.

His freedom ended Tuesday evening when Sgt. Kevin Prince and Patrolmen Isiah Price and Jeremy Joseph tracked him down at an apartment building in the 1500 block of West 5th Avenue, where his grandmother lives.

Police went to the building looking for Christmas, who had just been charged with felony escape, court records show. As they knocked on an apartment door, Joseph saw Christmas jump out a third-floor window, then ran yelling, “Help, Grandma!” the arrest report states.

Christmas was apprehended quickly as he tried to limp away from officers. He was treated at the hospital for injuries to his leg and arm, results of the three-story fall. As he was removed from the scene, Christmas told onlookers that the police escorting him to a squad car “were going to kill him,” the report states.

Christmas had allegedly taunted police on social media in the time between his release from jail and arrest, police said.

He was charged with burglary in January and is scheduled to appear in court Friday for a probation revocation hearing on a prior burglary conviction, court records state.
