An alleged road rage incident ended with a man being punched in the face Monday night in Yorkville, police said.

A 40-year-old man from Plano said he was stopped at Countryside Parkway and Route 47 when the incident began. He told police that when the green arrow came on, he decided he was going to go straight instead of turning, and waited for the green light to proceed through the intersection, Yorkville Police Department Deputy Chief Larry Hilt said.

In the vehicle behind the man was 26-year-old Joshua Jones. Hilt said Jones, 100 block of West Countryside Parkway, was planning on turning left but since the Plano man never turned ahead of him he was left stuck at the red light.

When the Plano man went straight through the intersection, Jones gave up his plans to turn left and followed the man, police said.

Hilt said the two pulled over on the side of the road and began to argue. The fight turned physical and Jones allegedly punched the man in the face, causing a bloody lip, Hilt said. He refused medical attention.

The Plano man called police and was directed to meet officers at a nearby gas station. Jones and the man both drove to the gas station where they spoke with police. Battery charges were filed against Jones.
