A large fight ended in the arrest of two people Sunday night in St. Charles Township, according to the Kane County Sheriff’s Department.
Deputies were called to South James Drive in St. Charles Township around 10:10 p.m. for reports of a large group of people who were fighting, according to Kane County Sheriff’s Lt. Patrick Gengler.
Deputies, along with police officers from the St. Charles, Wayne and South Elgin also responded to the scene.
When police arrived, they ordered those involved onto the ground, Gengler said.
David Griffeth, 35, 35W700 block of South James Drive, St. Charles Township, allegedly did not comply with deputies’ orders and began yelling at officers, authorities said. Gengler said at one point Griffeth attempted to charge at a deputy.
A deputy tried to hit Griffeth with a stun gun, but one of the darts missed its target, Gengler said. Shortly afterward, Griffeth was taken into custody. He was charged with resisting/obstructing a peace officer.
During their investigation into the fight, deputies learned that Griffeth and Harvey Gainer, 26, 600 block of Morgan Drive, Elgin, were drinking and got into an argument that quickly turned physical, police said.
Gengler said that when questioned, Gainer allegedly gave deputies a fake name. When they realized who he actually was, deputies learned that Gainer had outstanding warrants for domestic battery, forgery and aggravated battery to a peace officer. After being treated at a local hospital, Gainer was held in custody on the warrants and was also charged with resisting/obstructing a peace officer and misdemeanor battery.
