The volunteer committee that is working to recommend new attendance boundaries for Elgin District U46 schools has canceled its Tuesday meeting.
The enrollment and facilities committee of the District U46 Citizens Advisory Council, which is trying to recruit volunteer members representing every school, had been scheduled to meet Tuesday. But U46 officials have announced that the meeting was canceled because of a scheduling conflict.
The group’s next scheduled meeting is at 7 p.m. June 2, in the district’s Educational Services Center, at 355 E. Chicago St., Elgin.
Most recently, the committee has been drafting recommendations about attendance boundary shifts designed to relieve possible overcrowding at 13 elementary schools. Over the coming year the committee’s members also will recommend whether to close any underused schools and whether to change the attendance boundaries for high schools, middle schools and non-overcrowded elementary schools. Final decisions on all these questions must be made by the elected board of education, acting with advice from the full citizens advisory council and the superintendent of schools.
