A Proviso West High School cafeteria worker has been charged with having sex with a student in March.
Joi Taylor, 32, of Chicago was charged with criminal sexual assault in a position of authority and indecent solicitation of a child.
Hillside police Sgt. Anthony Milazzo said an investigation began after a school security officer notified police that Taylor may have had a relationship with a 16-year-old male student. He said the activity happened “during school hours, but off campus,” Milazzo said.

Milazzo said Taylor “hadn’t been employed with the school for very long,” and there have been no known previous incidents at the school.
In setting bail at $25,000 Thursday, Judge Ramon Ocasio said Taylor is to stay away from the youth’s home, school and work, have no contact with anyone younger than 18 who is not her child, and not use a cellphone or the Internet.
Criminal sexual assault in a position of authority, if convicted, carries a sentencing range of four to 15 years in prison. Indecent solicitation of a child carries a sentencing range of two to five years in prison.
