An 82-year-old man was killed Friday evening in a two-car crash in Joliet, authorities said.

The crash happened about 5:35 p.m. near Lincoln Highway and Hillcrest Road, said Illinois State Police Master Sgt. R. A. Caves.

A driver of a vehicle was heading west on Lincoln Highway when the driver veered into the eastbound lanes for an unknown reason, Caves said. The vehicle struck another vehicle driving east head on.

Three people inside the vehicle that caused the crash were hospitalized for non-life threatening injuries, state police said.

The 82-year-old driver of the car that was hit was killed. The man, of the 2900 block of Sheffield Drive in New Lenox, was the sole person in the car, Caves said.

The Will County Coroner had not formally identified the man as of Friday night.
