Fifty-two computers worth about $66,000 were stolen from Lake Bluff Middle School, according to Lake Bluff police.

On the morning of May 11, school employees found a broken door window on the west side of the school. Missing were 49 MacBook Air laptop computers used by students in the media center and three MacBook Pro laptops used by teachers and staff.

“This is a much larger theft than what usually occurs,” said Deputy Police Chief Mike Hosking. “Bicycles, car parts, radar detectors. It’s uncommon for 52 computers to disappear.”

Lake Bluff police are looking at similar thefts in other towns.

“We have some leads and are hopeful there will be a positive resolution,” Hosking said.
