Hundreds of residents in the village of Montgomery can look forward to finished streets in their subdivision later this summer.
The news was announced this week as the village accepted a settlement to complete the streets in the Huntington Chase subdivision located on the west side of Montgomery.
Building began in the subdivision in 2006 when the entire area was experiencing a boom, village officials said. There are at least eight streets in the area that were never finished. One layer of asphalt is present for most streets, but they were never completed beyond that primary road work, according to the village.
Bonds are typically taken out before developments begin and are to be used to finish the public areas such as streets if the developer encounters problems, according to the village. In this case the village settled the case with Fidelity and Deposit Company of Maryland.
The final settlement of $750,000 will go to complete at least eight streets in the neighborhood that consists of some 214 home sites that are 78 percent completed. The award comes after legal action was settled last week.
“I think it was a fair settlement, even though it was a long time coming,” said Village Attorney Steve Andersson.
“I want to thank you for your perseverance. You have been patient with us for eight years now. I want to thank you for sticking with us and thank you for taking the time,” said Robert Bean, one of the residents who attended the meeting this week at which the settlement was announced.
