South Elgin High School will host its 2015 Relay For Life overnight cancer fundraiser from 6 p.m. Friday, May 15 until 6 a.m. Saturday, May 16. And then the school’s auto club will hold its eighth annual auto show on Saturday.
The Relay for Life will be held at the school stadium, 760 E. Main St., South Elgin. This is a 12-hour overnight fundraiser in which teams work together to “celebrate the lives of those who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost to the disease, and fight back against a disease that takes far too much,” according to a press release from its organizers.
Teams of any size raise money throughout the year. At the annual relay event, team members take turns walking the outdoor track throughout the night to symbolize that cancer never sleeps. Teams have their own campsites. Entertainment, activities and food are available during the night. Each participant raising $100 receives a T-shirt and the ability to spend the night.
Vendors will be selling items at the event on Friday from 5 to 8 p.m., with a portion of their proceeds going to Relay For Life. Included are Jamberry Nails, Origami Owl, Pampered Chef, Cupcakes and others. Those interested in selling items should contact Ann Brady at [email protected].

Then the South Elgin High School Auto Club will present its eighth annual car show Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the staff parking lot on the southeast side of the campus. Those attending should park in the southwest lot.
“Sign your car up for $10 or just come by for all the fun. Spectators are free to enter,” club spokesman Steve Schertz said. “We will have cars of all types, 15 classes with trophies, special fund- raising events, food and T-shirts for sale.”
