Steppenwolf Theatre Company announced two shows on Monday for its Young Adults season, a literary adaptation and a new devised work.

George Orwell’s dystopian novel “1984” (Oct. 21-Nov. 15), as adapted by Lookingglass Theatre Company’s Andrew White, will play in the fall in an Upstairs Theatre production directed by Hallie Gordon. “1984” continues a recent SYA streak of literary adaptations of British works depicting crumbling societies, including last year’s “Animal Farm” and 2013’s “Lord of the Flies.”

Then in the winter is “The Compass,” a devised piece by Michael Rohd about technology’s role in decision-making. That play will run Feb. 24-March 12 in the Downstairs Theatre.

Steppenwolf Theatre Company is located at 1650 N. Halsted St.
