Carly McCameron, senior center on Antioch’s girls basketball team that won 30 games and reached the Elite 8 of the Class 3A playoffs in February, will play her college basketball at Augustana, an NCAA Division III program in Rock Island.

The 6-1 McCameron averaged 9.5 points, a team-leading 9.2 rebounds and two blocked shots per game in 2014-2015 while shooting 47 percent from the field. As one of the few seniors on the Sequoit team, she also was one of the team’s inspirational leaders.

A top student, McCameron is a member of the National Honor Society as well as the Spanish and math national honor societies. In addition, she was involved in many community activities including the Open Arms Mission and Sequoit Sidekicks, a mentoring program at the school. She is planning on a pre-physical therapy major at Augustana.

Augustana was 9-16 last year, including 3-11 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin.

On the Viking roster next year will be returning players Jessica VanRoeyen and Olivia Mayer, both from Libertyville.

Boys basketball

Libertyville has selected Brent Mork as its varsity boys basketball coach, replacing Scott Bogumil who stepped down after 11 seasons in which his teams had a 139-155 record.

Mork comes to Libertyville from Stevenson, where he coached in the Patriots boys basketball program at various levels. He also served for a time as head girls golf coach, stepping down after the 2013 season.

Currently on staff at Stevenson, he will teach at Libertyville beginning in the fall.

Libertyville has had just four head basketball coaches in the past 53 years. Larry Leon headed the Wildcats for 17 years (through 1978-79), followed by Max Sanders for 20 years (through 1999). Jim Goodwin coached for five seasons and Bogumil for 11.

Softball

Zion-Benton senior Rikki Vela announced she’ll play her college softball at Lakeland, an NCAA Division III program in Sheboygan, Wis.

Vela can play multiple positions, and Vela made a name for herself playing for the Illinois Impact 18-under travel team.

She will major in biochemistry and minor in criminology at Lakeland, which is a private, applied liberal arts college with 4,000 students.
