May 9: The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission has a hunter safety Internet-completion course from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the clubhouse at the Markham Park Shooting Range, 16001 W. State Road 84, Sunrise. Students must complete the Internet course before coming to class and bring a copy of the final report. An adult must accompany children under 16. May 16: The annual Miami Dolphins Foundation Fishing Tournament out of Miami Beach Marina. Anglers can fish on a boat with a Dolphins player. Entry fees start at $1,500 for two anglers. May 16: The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission has a free Women’s Fishing Clinic from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at John D. MacArthur Beach State Park, 10900 Jack Nicklaus Dr., North Palm Beach. Participants will learn the basics of environmental stewardship, fishing ethics, angling skills, safety and the vulnerability of Florida’s marine ecosystems in a fun, laid-back atmosphere. Lessons include knot tying, throwing a cast net, rigging a rod and reel, marine fish and habitat identification and catch-and-release techniques. If conditions allow, women will have the opportunity to fish from the shore. Fishing tackle and bait will be provided, but participants can bring their own.
