Recently I read your article “Shooter drill trains cops, staff and students” by Bridget O’Shea. I found that this article was very well written and the pictures gave great detail about the article.
For most high schools, shooter drills are great practice for everyone. In the article, they mention the use of fake guns with real sounding bullet noises. I found this very interesting, but could it get too frightening? I know training is a huge necessity, but it may scare kids and teens too much. I loved the idea of fake wounds. During a real shooting, there would be real wounds and I found that this was a great way to prepare.
After reading the article, I noticed you included the schools that participated in this training. All of the participants were public high schools. I think Catholic schools need training. At my school, St. Francis de Sales in Lake Zurich, we have only done a lockdown drill. During our lockdown drills, many students take things as a joke. Most students prefer to laugh or make noises. If it were a real lockdown we would be in deep trouble. I think it should be a necessity for all schools, public or Catholic, to practice training like the high schools do. If we would practice this at my school, I think it would teach all students that things can get serious and life-threatening.
In conclusion, I enjoyed this article very much. I find that it should be a necessity in all schools to practice a shooting drill.
