After two games of feeling the brunt of Naperville North’s strong offense, Wheaton North got just what it needed from Zach Colangelo, who pitched a two-hit shutout Monday afternoon. He struck out seven in the complete-game 2-0 victory for the Falcons (7-15, 3-9).

It was the third of three straight games against Naperville North. In the first on Friday, Wheaton North jumped out to a one-run lead in the first. But Naperville North responded by scoring in every remaining inning, ending up with 12 runs and 14 hits en route to a 12-3 victory. Naperville North’s bats stayed hot on Saturday, as the team scored three runs in the second and eventually cruised to an 11-1 victory.

But in Monday’s game, Colangelo kept the Huskies off balance with a strong change-up and was able to pitch out of very limited trouble. It was the second straight shutout for Colangelo, who kept Naperville Central scoreless last Tuesday in a three-hitter for the Falcon’s first DuPage Valley Conference win this year.

The offense provided just enough to give Colangelo a small cushion. In the top of the third, Wheaton North got back-to-back doubles from second baseman Kevin Wong and shortstop Charles Robin to score the first run of the game. In the fifth, the Falcons played small ball, with a bunt single, a bunt that moved the runner to second and a single to right by Robin that scored the run and gave the Falcons a 2-0 lead. Colangelo did the rest to help the Falcons pick up their third conference win of the season.
