A Wilmette man who allegedly tried to rob a Sheridan Road pharmacy of prescription painkillers was arrested April 28, after police used a surveillance picture taken during the crime to find him, police said.
Barry R. Menary, 54, of the 100 block of 3rd Street in Wilmette, is scheduled to appear May 7 in Cook County Circuit Court on a charge of felony attempted aggravated robbery. He was held at the Cook County Department of corrections on a $20,000 bond after his April 29 bond court hearing, police said.

After his arrest, Menary admitted to attempting the robbery, police said.
According to Wilmette police, Menary entered the CVS Pharmacy at the Plaza del Lago shopping center, 1515 Sheridan Road, shortly before 3:30 p.m. April 20. He walked over to a pharmacy technician behind the medical counter and handed the employee a note, police said.
Menary’s note demanded all the pharmacy’s oxycodone, and implied that he had a gun, police reported. He didn’t display a weapon, however, and left the store without any of the painkillers, police said.
The pharmacist called police, but Menary, whom witnesses last saw running from the scene, was gone before officers arrived, police said.
Police eventually identified and arrested Menary shortly after 8:30 a.m. on the 100 block of 3rd Street on April 28.
