Lake County Detective Chris Vukin followed the sound of gunfire late Friday night, turning off his lights and slowing his squad as he drove north on Virginia Street toward 15th Avenue.

At the Sin City Desciples parking lot, Vukin saw Michael Rivera, 58, standing over a man and shoot him several times, court records state.
Vukin and Cpl. John Artibey arrested Rivera and his girlfriend, Latanya Marshall, 45, both of 2021 W. 8th Ave., at the scene. Rivera is charged with murder and Marshall is charged with assisting a criminal, police said Monday.
Neither Marshall nor Rivera gave detectives a statement after their arrest, and no one at the motorcycle club could offer any reason while Rivera would kill London Troy Clayton, 49, of Gary, who was pronounced dead at the Methodist Hospitals Northlake campus at 12:47 a.m.
One man inside the club told police he watched a surveillance monitor inside the club that showed Rivera, a member, drive into the lot. The man said he did not observe any arguments inside the building prior to the shooting, the probable cause affidavit states.
Police found two handguns inside Rivera’s SUV at the scene, the probable cause affidavit states.
Detectives Cpl. Edward Gonzalez and James Bond questioned witnesses throughout the night and morning and were able to present a case to the Lake County prosecutor on Saturday, Lt. Thomas Pawlak said.
“They both should be commended for excellent work getting this case together,” Pawlak said.
Rivera was wounded in the leg in December 2010 after he and Jocelyn Blair, 31, went to Charlie’s Coney Island restaurant at 25th Avenue and Broadway after a night at the Sin City clubhouse. Blair, who was scheduled to testify for the prosecution in an upcoming murder trial, was killed at the scene. That case remains unsolved, Bond said, because witnesses have been reluctant to testify openly.
