On any given weekend, the race will go to the swiftest. But to win a driving title at Wilmot Raceway, speed has to be matched by consistency.

The quest for the coveted season-long driving titles will begin this Saturday when Wilmot holds its first racing show of 2015.

The pits will open at 3 p.m. and the grandstands at 5. Practice will start at 5:45 and racing begins at 6:45.

Tickets are $15 for fans age 12-over, and $5 for children age 7-11. Children 6-under can watch for free. Pit passes are $25. See http://www.wilmotraceway.com for details.

The track is a one-third mile banked clay oval, located on the Kenosha County Fairgrounds in Wilmot, Wis.

Opening night will include racing in all of Wilmot’s traditional classes, including the high-powered Winged Sprints, Modifieds, Street Stocks, Mini-Sprints, and Bandits (four-cylinder stock cars).

In addition, Saturday will mark the debut of the new GM crate engine-powered Wingless Sprints. An open practice was held last weekend at the track and things went well. One question answered at practice was how the GM604 engine would perform in a sprint car, with the answer among drivers being that it exceeded expectations and has the sound and power that Wilmot fans will enjoy.

Last year’s driving champions were Rob Maule of Hebron (Street Stocks), Erich Grosch of Arlington Heights (Pro-4’s), Brian Hillringhouse of South Milwaukee (Bandits), Chris Carlson of Union Grove, Wis., (Modifieds), Adam Schroeder of Zion (Mini-Sprints) and Todd Daun of Pleasant Prairie (Winged Sprints).

There will be racing at Wilmot every weekend through Sept. 12, with most shows on Saturdays.
