The town’s Republican precinct committeemen will gather Saturday, May 9, to replace Council Vice President Glen “Bud” Gaby, who died in April.
A second caucus will be held the same day to fill the vacancy for the November general election as well, Griffith Republican Chairman Tom Wichlinski said.
“While we are still saddened and in mourning over Bud’s passing, state law requires a caucus be held to fill the vacancy,” Wichlinski said in a release.
Wichlinski said those interested in the position should attend a precinct meeting at 8 p.m. Monday at Griffith Town Hall.
At the precinct meeting, prospective candidates will have an opportunity to speak to the precinct people. “We will have the paperwork on hand needed to file for the vacancies,” he said in the press release.
Anyone wishing to fill either the vacancy or the November ballot vacancy should file the paperwork no later than Wednesday to attorney David Wickland at 8146 Calumet Ave., Munster, Ind. 46321. It can also be faxed to (219) 836-8826 or emailed to [email protected].
The caucus will be held at 10 a.m. in the Griffith Town Hall. Eligible candidates must live in the first ward; a ward map can be found at griffith.in.gov.
Any other questions can be emailed to [email protected], Wichlinski said.
