Three people have been charged with robbery after allegedly holding a knife to an Aurora man’s neck and demanding money they believed they were owed.

Aurora Police Department spokesman Dan Ferrelli said that Alex Smith, 19, of Romeoville; Jenny Wimbs, 18, of Crest Hill; and Madalyn Popik, 18, of Joliet, drove to Aurora around 8:45 a.m. Friday to allegedly pick up money from a 19-year-old man.

Ferrelli said the man was called by the three suspects around 8:30 a.m. and informed that they would be by to pick up the money the man owed them.

When the three got to the man’s house near Park Hill Circle and Asbury Drive, Ferrelli said the man got into the suspects’ car and was driven for a short distance. At some point, Smith allegedly held a knife to the man’s neck and demanded money.

Ferrelli said the man handed over $100 and was let out of the vehicle.

The car drove away southbound on Asbury Drive toward Liberty Street when it was spotted by officers. Officers were able to stop the vehicle near Farnsworth Avenue and Front Street.

All three suspects were arrested and charged with robbery. Popik was also charged with possession of a controlled substance after she allegedly dropped several Xanax pills, Ferrelli said.
