Ruth Dieterich Wagner was honored on Thursday for her contributions to the Montgomery area.
The Village of Montgomery proclaimed April 30 as Ruth Dieterich Wagner Day in honor of the accomplishments of the 102-year-old resident.
“Thank you for all your kindness. Montgomery has served me well,” she said to the Village Board this week.
Born Elsie Ruth Armbruster in Na-Au-Say Township on Aug. 7, 1912, she graduated from East Aurora High School in 1930. She married Leslie Thomas Dieterich and the couple raised their only son, Thomas, in the family home on River Road in Montgomery. She continues to live there today.
Over the years, Wagner has served the Wayside Cross Board in Aurora, the Aurora Historical Society, Family Counseling Service, Aurora YWCA, Bardwall School PTA, United Way, the Kiwanis, East Aurora School District 131 and the First Presbyterian Church of Aurora, according to Montgomery officials.
Wagner has been honored for her work with the YWCA and was also a recipient of the Aurora Kiwanis Service to God and Man Award.

Montgomery Village President Matt Brolley told Wagner she has done a lot for the community and has been at the center of the village through a lot of changes and growth for quite some time.
“She is Montgomery’s most senior resident. She told me she is now 102.5,” Brolley said.
