A 56-year-old man died after he was struck by a van Wednesdy afternoon in Uptown on the North Side.

The man ran into oncoming traffic in the 4600 block of Broadway about 12:55 p.m. and was struck by a vehicle, said Officer Ron Gaines, a Chicago Police Department spokesman.

The man was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center where he was pronounced dead at 5:16 p.m. Wednesday, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office. Officials identified the man as Jesus Valdez, of the 800 block of West Montrose Avenue.

Authorities said no citations were issued to the driver of the van.
