A road closure in Bensenville has led to around 100 citations so far for drivers in Franklin Park.

In Bensenville, a bridge over Irving Park Road at York Road is being built to bypass Canadian Pacific reailroad tracks. Irving Park Road was opened in late March with the bridge partially complete.

Irving Park Road itself is scheduled to be lowered later in the project so trucks have clearance to get under the bridge. Signs warning truck drivers to take an alternative route were posted according to a March 25 article in the baiduhai. Some trucks, however, have not heeded the signs and crashed into the bridge. Irving Park Road was then reclosed.

“As a result, people are finding alternative ways home,” said Franklin Park Police Cmdr. Michael Konwinski.

That’s led to traffic back-ups along Franklin Avenue as drivers from the west try to head east. It’s also led to a number of them trying to cut through the parking lots of businesses located between Williams Drive and Mannheim Road in an effort to get to Mannheim Road, Konwinski said.

“Because of the long back-ups, I understand it,” he said. “We would appreciate if drivers obey the law and don’t evade traffic signals by cutting through nearby business lots.”
