Through the month of April, Elgin Community College has been focusing a series of special programs on the issue of Sexual Assault Awareness. And that month will end Thursday night, April 30, with a play by Eve Ensler called “Emotional Creature: The Secret Life of Girls Around the World.”

Acted out by members of the Elgin Community College Theater Department and sponsored by the Community Crisis Center of Elgin, the play begins at 7:30 p.m. in Spartan Auditorium in the college’s Building G. Admission is free but attendees are urged to bring a donation of toiletries or personal hygiene items for use by woman and children sheltering in the crisis center.

Other events during the month have included a “Clothesline Project,” in which women and men who have been affected by violence were urged to express their emotions by decorating a shirt and exhibiting it on a clothesline in the Building B hallway; a screening of the video “Red Blooded Men,” showing college life from a male perspective; a screening of the video “$5 for Guys, Girls Free,” about how a night out can turn ugly; and a screening of the video “Perspectives,” which asked people age 18 to 24 to theorize about why sexual assaults happen.
