Mannheim Middle School will get a new marquee-style sign this summer as part of an ongoing effort to reach out to parents.
“We have had success with our Facebook page and our automated phone and email [to parents] with regard to pushing out information and celebrations that occur in the building,” said Principal Tim Daly.
The sign will be built in front of the school at 2600 N. Hyde Park Ave. in unincorporated Leyden Township and will include a video monitor. Messages on the sign will be in both English and Spanish. Mannheim District 83 has gone as far as removing a tree in front of the building to improve visibility for the sign.
“Our traffic [of parents] before and after school will see it,” Daly said. “That’s our audience for it.”
The project has been in the district budget for at least half a dozen years and was originally budgeted at around $20,000, although Daly thinks the cost now will exceed that. Bids for the project are scheduled to be opened 1 p.m. May 1.
