Shootings since about midday Thursday have left a 16-year-old boy dead and at least five other people wounded on the city’s South and West sides, according to police.

The most recent shooting, in the 7300 block of South Dante Avenue in the Grand Crossing neighborhood, left a 16-year-old boy dead. He was shot about 6 p.m. Police said he was found shot in the neck and chest and pronounced dead on the scene.

Family members identified the teen as Amari Sutton and said he was fatally shot while waiting on a ride from a mentor outside his grandmother’s home.

Most recently, a 26-year-old man was wounded in a driveby shooting in the Ausin neighborhood on the West Side.

The man was standing with a group in the 5700 block of West Ohio Avenue about 10:55 p.m. when someone inside a passing light-colored SUV fired shots, police said. The 26-year-old was shot in his abdomen. He was driven to West Suburban Medical Center and then later transported John H. Stroger Hospital where his condition stabilized.

Another man was shot in Austin hours earlier.

A 20-year-old man walked into West Suburban Medical Center about 6:20 p.m. after he had been shot in his side and stomach, police said.

The 20-year-old was involved in a large fight in the 1200 block of North Parkside Avenue when someone pulled out a gun and shot him, police said. A friend then drove him to West Suburban, where he was listed in serious condition. The man was later transferred to John H. Stroger Hospital, police said.

Earlier, a 40-year-old man working for the Department of Water Management was shot in the Little Village neighborhood Thursday morning, according to authorities.

That happened in the 3000 block of South Komensky Avenue about 11:30 a.m. The man suffered w ounds to his hand and the upper left part of his chest, police said.

He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital and his condition had been stabilized, police said.

Peter Scales, a spokesman for the water department, confirmed that the man shot was an employee who was on duty at the time of the shooting.

About a half hour later, an 18-year-old man was shot in the Rosemoor neighborhood. He was wounded in the 10300 block of South Prairie Avenue, police said.

He was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center with a wound to his left leg.

In the Gresham neighborhood about 1:40 p.m., a 20-year-old man suffered multiple gunshot wounds in an attack in the 8000 block of South Marshfield Avenue.

He was wounded and taken to Holy Cross Hospital after someone got out of a car and started shooting, police said.

The shooter fled the scene, though it’s not clear if he fled in the car.
