Name: Columbia Women’s Anytime Outdoor Boot Cut Pants
What it is: Flattering stretch-nylon pants with a waistband that hits just above the hip. Although they have an active fit, they don’t cling to thighs and calves with their boot-cut design, so they flatter a variety of figures. The waistband can be laced for a perfect fit. These pants offer Columbia’s Omni-Shade UPF 50 sun protection along with Omni-Shield to repel water, stains and spills. The pants are designed for comfort whether the wearer is hiking or running errands around town. Colors include black, light gray, tusk (off-white) and India ink, and the pants are available in sizes 2-16 with a 32-inch regular inseam or a 30-inch short inseam.
The good: Although these pants may be designed for active outdoor wear, they are ideal for the interior of a plane on flights lasting as long as 14 hours. Plus, they are comfortable for sleeping without making you look like a slouch in sweat pants. And after arriving at a destination, the pants can pass for evening slacks with a dressy top. I tested a black pair, which may more easily pass for business casual than a lighter color. The pants also are great for a gym workout or a hike at cooler destinations. After a day or two of extended wear, they can be washed in a hotel sink for drying overnight.
The bad: The lacing on the exterior waistband does look a bit sporty, so a dressier version with lacing hidden inside would be nice.
