The woman told police she was walking to her car about 9:45 p.m. Wednesday when a man, wearing an orange, hooded sweatshirt with writing on it, jeans and running shoes, walked up to her and said, “Ma’am, I want your wallet and money. I have a gun and will shoot you,” Byrd said
She ran to her car and locked the doors, but the assailant followed and “with his hand inside his front pocket, implied that he had a gun,” Byrd wrote in a news release. The suspect ran south from the parking lot and the victim drove away and located a transit police officer who had just arrived at the station, Byrd said.
Both NICTD and Gary police patrolled the area but did not find a man matching the victim’s description. Byrd asked that anyone with information about the identity of the suspect to call the police department at 398-6000. He said all calls are confidential.
