Porchlight Music Theatre had 225 attendees in stitches — or rather in Stritches — of laughter at their ICONS gala as the benefit paid tribute to Broadway legend Elaine Stritch on April 12 at the Intercontinental Chicago Magnificent Mile. The annual gala honored founder and former director of Northwestern University’s music theatre program Dominic Missimi of Northfield with the 2015 Guy Adkins Award for Excellence in the Advancement of Music Theatre in Chicago.

Performances by luminaries of Chicago musical theater followed with a tribute to Stritch, dubbed “Broadway’s last first lady” by the British press. And artistic director Michael Weber kicked off Porchlight’s 21st anniversary season of creating “American Musicals in a Chicago Style.” The most successful gala in Porchlight’s 20-year history thus far raised $76,500 for the theater’s educational programs and productions.
