A Harvey man who police said was operating the largest residential-based marijuana cultivation center in the south suburb’s history has been charged with several drug-related offenses, according to officials.

Maurice Mance, 45, of the 15200 block of South Honore Avenue, was charged with unlawful production of cannabis, unlawful use of a weapon with an altered barrel, possession of cannabis and possession of cannabis with intent to sell, according to Harvey police.

Bail was set at $500,000 Wednesday by Cook County Judge Darron Bowden. Mance’s next court date is May 11.

Police spokesman Sean Howard said felony charges were approved Tuesday against Mance.

Howard said Mance was taken into custody about 8 a.m. Monday after police recovered more than 200 pounds of cultivated and processed marijuana in two bedrooms while executing a search warrant. They also found a sawed-off shotgun, which led to the weapons charge.
