Spring is in the air — or soon will be in the air — and that means opening day for the Women’s 9-Hole Golf League at Bonnie Brook in Waukegan is coming up.
The league will start in season with a luncheon at noon on Thursday, April 30 at the course. The first day of golf will be on Thursday, May 7, with women teeing off in the morning.
“If you don’t have the time to play 18 holes of golf, or don’t think you’re experienced enough for 18 holes, Bonnie Brook offers you the chance to play in the 9-Hole League every Thursday morning,” said leaguer officer Janet Krueger.
“All women are welcome regardless of age or ability. This is a fun group of women who truly enjoy the game.”
For lunch reservations on April 30, call Mary Brown at (262) 694-1553. New players who want to see if the league works for them can play in May and June. Contact Brown for a tee time.

Ultimate Gym
The Level 4 girls team from Ultimate Gymnastics of Gurnee ended its competitive season in style, chalking up 11 gold medals at the state meet.
The Youth section of the team placed first at state while the combined team placed second.
The strong team showing was made possible in part by three individual all-around champions — Reese Berke in the Youth C age group, Chloe Byrne in the Youth B division and Jillian Ellenwood in the Child C session.
In addition, Ellenwood and Byrne each claimed three individual event titles to go with all-around gold, making them the first Ultimate gymnasts to win four titles at a single state championship. Byrne’s 9.9 on balance beam also set a new club scoring record on that event.
The team’s other gold medal came on vault in the Youth F section when Amanda Hamann’s 9.7 performance took her to the top of the podium. She also added a bronze medal on uneven bars and placed second in the all-around.
