Naperville celebrated an evening of international cooperation Friday with its sister cities in Nitra, Slovakia, and Pátzcuaro, Mexico.
Delegates from Illinois Sister Cities Commissions kicked off the evening at a dinner gala followed by “Celebrate Sister Cities Performing Arts,” a performing arts showcase in the Wentz Concert Hall on the campus of North Central College.
Recognizing cultural, educational, humanitarian, and economic exchanges, performances included Ballet Folklorico Quetzalcoatl showcasing sister city Pátzcuaro, Mexico and the Veselica Slovak Folk Ensemble representing Nitra, Slovakia. The evening also featured the Neuqua Chamber Singers and Chicago Sinfonietta.
The goal of the 15-member Naperville Sister Cities Commission is to foster international understanding and friendship by forging personal links through city-to-city affiliations. Naperville has been the sister city of Nitra since 1993 and Pátzcuaro since 2010.
