Girls’ soccer: Hersey falls in PepsiCo Showdown
Hersey had only one loss on the season going into the quarterfinal of the PepsiCo Showdown Tournament at New Trier Stadium in Northfield last week. But the team was taking on the defending state champion New Trier, who was off to a 10-0 start this year. While the Huskies played them close, a goal in the 32nd minute by New Trier all-state striker Kelly Maday was enough to give the Trevians a 1-0 victory. Hersey had previously topped York 3-2 on penalty kicks to advance out of the first round, before beating South Elgin 3-1 to advance to the quarterfinals. On Saturday, Hersey fell to Fenwick 3-2 in the consolation bracket.
