A 22-year-old Aurora man was seriously injured early Sunday morning after he was shot in the face while driving near Trask and Grove streets in Aurora, police said.
The victim and his 21-year-old passenger were driving around 12:30 a.m. when a white, newer model SUV or sedan occupied by several men pulled up beside the victim’s vehicle. Someone inside the white vehicle then began shooting, police said.
One of the shots struck the 22-year-old driver in the face, Aurora Police Department spokesman Dan Ferrelli said.
The passenger said he was able to pull the vehicle over and move the injured driver to the passenger seat. The 22-year-old then drove them both to an Aurora hospital.
Ferrelli said the victim was stabilized and transported to a suburban Chicago hospital for further treatment.
This was one of two shootings to occur Sunday, Ferrelli said.
Around 7:40 p.m. that evening, bullets struck a garage in the 600 block of Fifth Street. Ferrelli said it appears as if someone standing in the street in the 500 block of Maple Avenue exchanged fire with someone in an alley behind the 500 block of Fifth Street.
Shortly after they were dispatched for the Fifth Street shots fired call, police pulled over a vehicle that was similar to one described as leaving the scene of the shooting. Inside the car officers found a 23-year-old Aurora man who had been shot in the finger.
He told police that he was walking down the street when he was shot. He refused to tell officers what street he was allegedly on when the incident occurred, Ferrelli said.
The victim was taken to an Aurora hospital for treatment, and charged with possession of marijuana, Ferrelli said.
