Sophia Rucker, a seventh-grade student at St. Francis Xavier in Wilmette, has been named a 2015 Brine National All-Star in lacrosse and chosen to compete in a national showcase, according to a press release.
Rucker has been tabbed to participate in the Brine National Lacrosse Academy and the Brine National Lacrosse Classic. The events run simultaneously from June 29-July 2 in Virginia.
According to the event website girls who attend the academy “will take part in a daily curriculum based on position instruction, human performance, sport psychology and game competition where players and teams are instructed and coached by an NCAA collegiate lacrosse [coaches].” The classic is a tournament featuring regional teams. Rucker was selected to represent the Mid-West Region.
Rucker earned the honor by excelling at a regional qualifier that consisted of various drills and competitions, according to national director Joel Franklin.
