Looking for something to do? Here are five things to do in the area April 17 to 22.

–Planning a Native Garden, 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Isle a la Cache Museum, 501 E. Romeo Road, Romeoville; 815-886-1467; reconnectwithnature.org.

Learn about native plants and how to attract songbirds and butterflies with a low-maintenance garden at the free indoor program presented by the Forest Preserve District of Will County and the Conservation Foundation. Open to ages 12 and older. Registration is required in advance.

Plein air painting (in the open air) was a method favored by many French Impressionists, including Monet and Renior, during the 1800s. Last summer, the Highland Park Art Center recruited students and friends to do the same. The Vanderpoel Art Association will exhibit plein air work created during the Concert by the Lake at Beverly Cemetery in July of 2014. Admission is free. Art will be on display until May 30.

Mike Toomey, Anna Belaval and Pat Tomasulo from the morning news team will perform standup comedy at the entertainment complex. Tickets are $20, $39 with dinner.

Gather in the beer garden for free grilled sausages, while supplies last, and entertainment at the fundraiser for Friends of the Cal-Sag Trail to support the coming bicycle trail and to kickoff spring and bicycling season.

ARC Gallery and Educational Foundation, the oldest and longest continually operating women’s co-operative gallery in Chicago, will mark its 40th anniversary with an exhibit by more than 120 current and former members.
