An Aurora woman said she was following a friend home from an Aurora bar to make sure he arrived safely when she was stopped for driving on a flat tire and charged with drunken driving, according to reports.

Patricia Yard, 50, 500 block of West Chester Court, was pulled over around 3:01 a.m. Saturday near North Commons Drive and McCoy Drive after she was spotted by police driving her vehicle with a flat tire.

According to Aurora police reports, Yard’s tire was shredded, and she was driving on the tire’s rim. During the stop, Yard appeared intoxicated, police said.

She allegedly told police that she was following a friend home from an Aurora bar to make sure the friend got home safely, according to the report. She said she had been drinking throughout the evening, but didn’t take her last shot, according to police.

Yard told police she went to a West Chicago bowling alley and was on her way home from the Aurora bar when she was stopped.

She was charged with drunken driving, no insurance and driving on an unsafe tire, police said.
