A third attempted break-in in the neighborhood near Homestead Park has the Highland Police Department warning women to be extra vigilant.

A resident in the 3100 block of Duluth Street reported to police that around 1:38 a.m. Sunday, someone threw a rock through a door window at the back of her house. She believes the person was trying to enter but was unsuccessful, Highland Public Information Officer Cmdr. George Georgeff said.

Two other similar incidents occurred on Glenwood Street between the hours of 11 p.m. and 1 a.m. last week; in both those incidents, women were the only people in the north side residences at the time, Georgeff said.

The police department has increased its patrolling of the area, and residents are encouraged to keep their doors locked and outside lights on, Georgeff said. As well, people should call 911 immediately if they see any suspicious activity.
