The Chicago Fire’s season may be on hold but they remained active Monday, trading midfielder Alex to the Houston Dynamo for Jamaican forward Jason Johnson.

Terms were not disclosed.

Johnson, 24, made eight starts in 2014 for the Dynamo and also played for the USL-PRO Pittsburgh Riverhounds. As a rookie in 2013, he started four of the 13 matches in which he appeared for Houston.

“Jason is a good, young player with a lot of pace and I’m pleased that we’ll be adding him to our roster,” Fire coach Frank Yallop said in a statement. “I’d like to thank Alex for his time with the club and wish him the best in Houston.”

Alex had three goals and two assists in 76 matches over four seasons.

Johnson has made three appearances with Jamaica’s national team. He made his debut Feb. 20, 2010 against Argentina.

The Fire will have a 20-day gap between games after Saturday’s scheduled game at Montreal was moved to Sept. 23 to give the Impact time to prepare for a Champions League finale against Club América on April 22.

The Fire resume play on April 24 at home with their inaugural meeting with expansion New York City FC.
