An Aurora man has been charged with contributing to the delinquency of minors and felony retail theft after Aurora police said he used two children to help steal a car alarm system.
Aurora Police Department spokesman Dan Ferrelli said Gabriel Deluna, 39, 300 block of North Avenue, was seen on video surveillance entering an auto supplies store in the 1200 block of Aurora Avenue around 5:20 p.m. April 6. He was with an adult woman and two minor children, Ferrelli said.
During their time inside the store, Ferrelli said Deluna took a box containing a car alarm system and gave it to one of the children to take out of the store. Once employees learned what had happened, they called police.
Ferrelli said by the time officers arrived, Deluna, the woman and the children had already left the store.
Police identified Deluna off of security footage and responded to a home in the 500 block of Ashland Avenue around 5 p.m. Friday to place him under arrest.
Ferrelli said charges are expected to be filed against the adult woman with Deluna.
The Department of Children and Family Services is investigating the incident, Ferrelli said.
