
Stevenson’s boys gymnastics team took a major step forward Friday night.
The Patriots won the team competition at the ultra-competitive Robert Bohl Invitational held at Mundelein. Stevenson’s score of 147.05 was more than five points better than second-place Deerfield. The Warriors finished with a score of 141.98.
“With all the teams that were here, it means a lot. I’m very proud of the boys,” Stevenson coach Eric Liva said. “We want to get back [scoring in the] 150s by the end of the year.”
Stevenson senior Arie Feltman-Frank won the all-around competition with a score of 52.10. Sophomore Matt Krames was the Patriots’ other top-10 all-around gymnast. He finished in sixth place with a score of 49.30. Feltman-Frank won the horizontal bar event with a score of 8.6.
Other event winners were Wheaton-Warrenville South’s Lucas Cooperman (floor exercise, 9.45), Niles West’s David Thai (pommel horse, 9.0), Deerfield’s Heath Ogawa (vault, 9.45), Cooperman (parallel bars, 9.2) and Thai (rings, 9.1).
The rest of the top-10 team results were Glenbrook South (third, 141.33), Wheaton-Warrenville South (139.87), Hoffman Estates (fifth, 137.68), Schaumburg (sixth, 136.43), Niles West (seventh, 136.22), Libertyville (eighth, 134.85), Glenbrook North (ninth, 133.18) and Buffalo Grove, which finished in 10th place with a score of 131.25.
