With 19,000 square feet of climbing surface for beginner and expert climbers, the Malkin-Sacks Rock Climbing Wall is expected to open in mid May, said Chicago Park District spokeswoman Jessica Maxey-Faulkner.
The park district is already looking to hire full-time and part-time climbing wall personnel starting at $13 an hour.
Maxey-Faulkner did not know what the cost to the public would be to climb up the wall.
The park’s ice skating ribbon, renovated fieldhouse and parts of the children’s playground opened in December. The city has said other amenities such as portions of the play garden and the lawn areas will be open to the public in the spring.
