The six-person River Forest Village Board race was too close to call Tuesday night, but veterans of the board led late vote totals.
According to unofficial election results from the Cook County Clerk’s Office, Michael Gibbs and incumbents Susan Conti and Carmela Corsini were the leading vote-getters, with seven of eight precincts reporting as of about 11:55 p.m. April 7.
According to those results, Conti had received 964 votes, Gibbs received 916 votes, and Corsini had 881 votes. Patty Henek had received 865 votes, Frederick J. “Rick” Gillis, 724 votes, and Richard Cooke, 657 votes.
Turnout was 25.1 percent, according to unofficial election results. Of 7,511 registered voters in River Forest, 1,885 ballots were cast, with seven of eight precincts reporting.
Conti and Corsini were up for re-election; Trustee Colleen Horrigan chose not to run for another term on the board.
“I am thankful for the confidence that the voters continue to put in me,” Conti said.
She said she looks forward to seeing through some of the efforts and initiatives the village has worked on recently, like the economic development prospects River Forest is entertaining.
“I’m very excited to see those come to fulfillment,” Conti said. “And finally, after a lot of waiting, they are going to come to fruition.”
At about 11 p.m. Tuesday, Gibbs — who previously served on the board from 2009 through 2013, when he lost a bid for village president — said he was optimistic with the results so far but reluctant to celebrate.
