Each month the Naperville Sun profiles a member of the Naperville Newcomers and Neighbors Club, this month’s member of the month is Lois Lowenstern.
Where are you from?
I lived in Chicago all my adult life, first in Hyde Park near the University of Chicago, and more recently, in a high-rise along Lake Michigan in the shadow of the John Hancock building.
What brought you to Naprville?
After I was widowed, my daughter and I decided to join forces. We purchased a house in the Knoch Knolls subdivision in 2010 and we share that home with my daughter’s sixteen year old twins.
How did you hear about the Naperville Newcomers and Neighbors Club?
In the spring of 2011, I saw a notice in the newspaper announcing NNNC’s board meeting and coffee for new residents to Naperville. I attended the meeting, immediately connected with one of the other newcomers and joined that day.
What are your favorite activities in the club?
I’m a member of a couple book groups and enjoy anything that involves food…the monthly club luncheon, Breakfast Bunch, Coffee Shop Chat and Let’s do Lunch. I’ve also participated in craft and painting activities.
What are your favorite things to do in our area?
I can be found on a treadmill at the 95th Street YMCA most weekday mornings and at Centennial Beach on summer days. The Paramount Theater matinee presentations of Broadway plays in Aurora, has also been a highlight of my life in the suburbs.
Do you have a favorite hobby?
My lifetime passion has been travel and in the last couple years. I’ve toured UNESCO world heritage sites of Southern Italy and Sicily; the paradors of Northern Spain and wine country of Portugal; as well as last summer’s extended trip to the Scandinavian countries of Denmark, Finland, Sweden and the North Cape of Norway to experience the “Midnight Sun.”
